Agency advises residents to check date on packaged goods before consumption
The Jigawa Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA) has advised residents to check dates on packaged foods and drinks to avoid consuming expired products.
The Managing Director of the agency, Mr Adamu Sabo, gave the advice in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday in Dutse.
Sabo also advised residents to always wash vegetables and fruits before consuming them.
He explained that the advice was imperative as the 2024 Ramadan fast drew nearer, during which, people consumed packaged foods, drinks, vegetables and fruits.
The managing director added that “as the Muslim Ramadan fast approaches, it is important for us to remind people on the need
to check date markings on products they buy to avoid consuming expired goods.
“People must be careful while using additives for foods and drinks to enhance taste because that could result in severe illness and even death, as it happened last year during the fasting period in many states.
“People should also ensure that they thoroughly wash vegetables and fruits before consumption to avoid diseases.”
According to him, the agency has concluded arrangements to check the circulation of unwholesome and fake products in the state,
particularly during the fasting period when people make more use of additives, vegetables and fruits.”
Sabo, therefore, warned traders in the state against selling unwholesome and expired products, stressing that “our inspectors will go out in full force to apprehend any trader found wanting.
“And such traders will face the full wrath of the law.”
