NSCDC arrest suspect over alleged electricity cable theft in Katsina

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Katsina Command, has arrested a suspect over alleged vandalism of 11KVA high tension cables.

DSC Buhari Hamisu, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), disclosed this when the suspect was paraded before newsmen in Katsina on Wednesday.

Hamisu said that the suspect, Abdullahi Usman, 20, was caught when vandalising the cables on Feb. 5, on the outskirts of Jiruwe Village, in Dandume Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

“The notorious vandal, a resident of Layin Makera in Dandume, was arrested through collaborative efforts with residents in area and personnel of the Katsina Community Watch Corps.

“He specialises in theft and vandalism of sensitive high tension electric wires and cables.

“During the investigation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime,” the command’s spokesman said.

He said that when the suspect was arrested the stolen lenght of cables, a machet and hooked stick were found in his possession.

Hamisu said that the suspect would be charged before a court immediately after the completion of police investigation.

He said that the NSCDC Commandant, Mr Jamilu Indabawa, had appealed to members of the public to report to it suspicious persons or movement around their vicinity and to remain law abiding.
