Unemployed man in court for alleged theft of N2m rods
The police on Friday arraigned a 24-year-old unemployed man, Abdulahi Lawal, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing iron rods valued N2 million.
The defendant who does not have a fixed address is being tried for stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the offence was committed on Jan. 5, 2024, at Laralek Ultimate Company site, located at Okeho Street, Dopemu, Lagos.
Odugbo said there had been reports that iron rods were missing from that particular site and the company hired additional security guards to monitor the site.
He said that the security guards caught the defendant at mid night with some iron rods valued N2 million.
Odugbo said the offence contravened section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs M. O. Popoola, granted the defendant bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Popoola, however, adjourned the case until March 26 for mention.
