Gov.’s wife seeks synergy with CSOs to curb GBV
Hajiya Zainab-Nasare Idris, wife of Kebbi Governor, has appealed to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the state to cooperate with her to curb Gender Based Violence (GBV).
She made the plea while addressing a news conference as part of activities lined up to mark 2014 World Women’s Day at Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
The governor’s wife observed that the call became imperative because the menace required collective efforts by all stakeholders.
She said her door was always opened, “so that together we can tackle the challenges.
GBV is not only restricted to raping but it also involves other aspects of women’s life.
“As a husband, you are not expected to beat your wife; you are not expected to maltreat her or abuse her; so, there are different forms of gender based violence happening in our society.”
The governor’s wife appealed to women, especially the youth, to shun negative use of social media.
“Let us imbibe the habit of using the social media platforms to increase our knowledge or wealth as against using it to cheat or expose our body.”
She assured women in the state that the present administration under her husband, had planned different skills acquisition programmes for women with a view to empowering them to stand on their feet.
The governor’s wife also promised to support women to study health related courses to fill in the gap in manpower need of women in the profession.
