Israel: 90 militants killed during fighting around Gaza City hospital
The Israeli Army said on Wednesday it was continuing its operation in the al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, the largest health facility in the Gaza Strip.
This has led to the death of many more militants being killed in the fighting.
“So far, the troops have killed around 90 terrorists in the area,’’ the military said.
Israeli troops arrested 160 suspects and brought them to Israel for further questioning, the army said.
Soldiers also seized weapons during the operation.
Some 50 fighters were said to have been killed at the hospital on Tuesday.
According to the military, civilians, patients, doctors and medical equipment were not harmed.
The information could not be independently verified.
On Monday night, Israeli troops once again entered al-Shifa as it pursued members of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, responsible for the Oct. 7, massacres in southern Israel.
The Islamist Hamas movement took control of the Gaza Strip in 2007, after Israeli withdrew settlements from the territory in 2005.
Two Israeli soldiers were killed in the operation at al-Shifa, the military said on Wednesday.
In its previous operations at the site, the Israeli army said that he had found a Hamas tunnel complex there.
Israel has long accused Hamas of using civilian infrastructure such as hospitals and schools as its headquarters or weapons stores.
Hamas denied using hospitals for military purposes.
