Court remands man, 40, over alleged robbery, kidnapping
An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday remanded a 40-year-old man, Sumo Muhammadu, in the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre over alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.
The police prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Oct. 15, 2023 at about 8:00p.m in Ido-Ekiti, Ido-Osi Local Government Area of the state.
Oriyomi alleged that the defendant robbed Ayuba Mohammed and Usman Mohammed of their cell phones at gun point.
He also alleged that the defendant and others at large, kidnapped Ayuba Mohammed, taken him into the forest until ransom was paid by his family.
Oriyomi said that the offences contravened Sections 312(2) (a) & (b) and 279(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The plea of the defendant was not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olarewaju Owoleso, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice.
He adjourned the case till May 6 for mention.
