PDP urges unity in Lagos chapter, says state winnable
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for discipline and unity among party members in Lagos State to ensure victory in the state in 2027.
Mr Rahman Owokoniran, South-West Secretary of the party, made the call at the Lagos PDP Maiden Ramadan Lecture on Sunday in Lagos.
It was reported the programme was organised by the state chapter of the party in conjunction with the Supreme Heritage and Legacy Foundation.
Owokoniran decried the lack of unity and discipline in the state chapter of the party, saying it had affected the electoral fortune of the party in the state.
He said that the party could only win elections in the state if members returned to their various wards to foster unity and peace among themselves.
“I want to let us know that the fate of our party is in our hands, and all the prayers we have offered today for the unity and peace of our members will not be in vain.
“We should know that we have a role to play to ensure progress in the state chapter. We should go back to our various wards and educate others that are not present here on the need to foster unity and work towards the objective of winning the state governorship election in 2027.
“The disunity among members has affected our chances in the various elections. So, we should unite and start working towards growing our members at our various wards,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the State Party Chairman, Mr Philip Aivogi, also urged party faithful to be united and ensure peace reign at the state chapter.
According to him, it is only if members are united that the party can defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2025 local government elections in the state and the 2027 general elections.
The chairman urged members to use the period of Ramadan to pray for the progress of the party in the state.
“We cannot afford to allow this party to collapse. We cannot afford to disappoint those who founded the party as they built the party on a strong foundation.
“We must, therefore, work towards repositioning the party so that we can win elections,” he said.
The guest lecturer, Sheikh Fadhilah Mustapha, said the party needed to take its rightful place by putting its house in order, to win the state in 2027.
Mustapha urged party leaders to work towards returning Nigeria to its glorious days when the country was truly the giant of Africa.
The cleric offered prayers for unity and peace in the country.
It was reported that party leaders in attendance included Alhaji Muritala Ashorobi, a former PDP State Chairman and Mr Tai Benedict, Deputy State Chairman of the party.
