The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, has called on political leaders in Nigeria to prioritise the welfare of its citizens.

In his Homily on Sunday at the Church of Annunciation, Arab Road, Kubwa, Kaigama emphasised the importance of ensuring access to basic necessities such as water, light, education, healthcare, food and shelter.

The Archbishop also stressed the need for security while highlighting the plight of those terrorised by religious bigots, terrorists and kidnappers.

He urged leaders to fight poverty, diseases and immorality, and criticised the focus on war and other issues over the rights of the poor and vulnerable.

The man of God called on the international community to confront leaders who govern poorly and pressurise them to address pressing issues.

He also urged the international community to address issues of poverty and injustice ignored by leaders who govern poorly.
