Afropop singer, Nwoko Chinedu, with the stage name, Yprince, says Nigerian music industry has evolved and a hardworking and consistent musician can breakthrough without signing into a record label.

The fast rising musician gave the position in an interview with our reporter in Abuja on Sunday.

“You just have to put good content, prioritise all social handles you can put your hands on, pay influencers, stay consistent, pray and keep pushing and watch yourself grow big.

“Currently there are a lot of music companies that can put your song on all musical platforms for a little fee.

“For example, we have United Masters, Ditto music, Distro kid , CD baby and so much more that can get your song out there and you will get 100 per cent royalties on your music.

“There are also companies protecting your songs from copyright like the BMI . All that you need, basically, is consistency, prayer and hard work.,” he said.

The singer stressed that rather than signing under a label, he would rather create a management team that he would collaborate with, to facilitate the growth of his music.

“I want to be an independent artiste, I want to be able to manage my contents and go about my publications without getting into conflict with third-party issues,” he said

He counselled upcoming artistes and content creators to stay consistent and not to give up in the face of challenges

“Love your craft, appreciate your own music and tell your self that you are going to be great, no matter what.

“Above all, pray and ask God for grace. Seek for wisdom and be open to learn.

“For the already made artiste, they should be open and also assist the up-coming ones .

“The industry should be made one big family, regardless of the level of achievement in the music industry,” he said.

YPrince who said he had six songs in his kitty, so far, also urged the already made artistes to encourage the upcoming ones through collaborative partnership.

“I have released six songs so far, including, “All I want” in 2016, followed by another one titled “4u” which was officially published 2021.

I later released an EP called ” Nextbigthing” which has three songs in it – ” Ojoro”, “You I see’, and ‘Ifemi”.

“Then i recently released a song titled ” ‘Obianuju’ and I also have other musical projects I am currently working on.

“I am currently working on a Campus tour to create awareness and gain a good fan base,” he said.

YPrince said that in the music industry, he looked up to Davido, Tuface, Taylor swift, Kizz daniel and Rema.

“I also wish to collaborate with Davido, Rema, Phyno, Olamide, Fireboy, Joeboy, Tiwa Savage and Kizz Daniel because their genre of music align with mine,” he said.
