Kwara govt. sensitises students on dangers of drug abuse
Kwara State Drug Control Committee, on Tuesday in Ilorin, commenced mass sensitisation of students on dangers of drugs abuse in the society.
NEWSVERGE reports that the Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina El-Imam, spoke at the sensitisation programme for the students and staff members of Government Secondary School, Ilorin.
El-Imam, who was represented by the State Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Mrs Barakat Olarewaju, called on the students to shun all forms of drug abuse.
She listed the effects of drug abuse to include: untimely death and mental disorder, among others.
The commissioner urged the students to desist from taking any hard drug which could destroy their lives.
She also enjoined community leaders to take up the campaign and the sensitisation of youths in order to build great future leaders, which, she said, was the aspiration of the Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration.
Also speaking, a member of the committee, Alhaji Wahab Ajibola, advised the youth of Ojagboro community to desist from use of hard substances, saying it could have severe consequences on them.
The Magaji of Ojagboro, Khalifa Yahaya Oloro, commended the state government for waging war against all acts capable of destroying the lives of the youth.
He pledged the support and collaboration of community leaders to the campaign.
