Court remands man, 35, over alleged murder

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Wednesday, remanded a 35-year-old man, Babatunde Raheem, in Agodi correctional facility over alleged murder.

Raheem, whose address was not provided, was charged with murder.

However, the Magistrate, Mrs Kausarat Ayofe, did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction.

Ayofe directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice and adjourned the case till July 31 for mention.

The Prosecutor, Insp Toyin Ibrahim, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 30 at about 5 a.m. at Apata area of Ibadan.

Ibrahim said that the defendant killed one 56-year-old man, Olowookere Olasunkanmi, by matcheting him on the left hand and beating him with all over his body a cutlass.

He said the offence contravened Sections 324 and 316 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
