Graduation: Students task to uphold academic integrity

Students of Junior Secondary School (JSS), Kubwa have been advised to uphold the academic integrity of the school as they pursue their future academic journey.

The Principal of the school, Mr Olayinka Akinfolajimi, was speaking at the 16th Graduation/Unveiling of the 6th Edition of the school magazine, in Abuja on Monday.

Akinfolajimi said the school would not go back on its mantra of excellence as it would ensure it remained committed to breeding excellence students.

He said that the school would continue to churn out graduates who would not just be beneficial to their respective families but to the larger society.

According to him, the school has made remarkable progress not only in numerical strength, but also in quality of instructions, academic aspects and sporting activities.

“When I came on board in the last five month, we have sat down to study areas of lapses and a lot of changes are on ground.

“We ensure we supervise the teachers to give quality education to the students. We ensure the teachers make use of instructional materials and we made them readily available for use.

“We are hoping that the students will continue with the stride and continue to bring excellence in their future academic performance,” he said.

Also, Dr Shuaibu Emmanuel, Director Quality Assurance, FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), said the board ensured that standards were maintained in all primary and junior secondary schools.

“What we do is to examine what schools are to do as regards the baseline that has been established.

“We go round to ensure that what is meant to be done is done.

“During the National Council on Education meeting, the safe school initiative was extensively discussed and states and FCT were mandated to go and make sure the safe schools initiative works.

“We have set the motion in ground. We have some remote schools that kidnapping are prone and actions have been taken.

“We have vigilante groups that have been established in local communities and were coordinated by FCT Education Secretariat through the help of FCT UBEB,” he said.

On returning out-of-school children on the street back to the classrooms, he added that a lot of programmes have been initiated to ensure students were brought back to school and remained in schools.

In the same vein, the Permanent Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat, Chukwuemeka Ibe, said efforts were made towards facilitating effective teaching and learning in schools.

Ibe, represented by Mrs Magdalene Uzoanya, Director, FCT Department of School Services, said the FCT Minister, through the department of Mass Education, was working hard to ensure students on the street were returned to school.

One of the graduating students, Museba Muhammed, charged the students to uphold the good moral behaviours instilled in them, by becoming the future ambassadors of their alma mater.

Highlight of the event featured awards of scholarships to the best graduating students in Mathematics, English, Sports, Civil and Technology by the Chief Executive Officer of School of HardKnock, Dr Jerry Akubo.
