Court dissolves marriage of 3 children on wife’s request
An Area Court sitting in Ilorin on Friday dissolved an Islamic marriage between one Ramat Abike and Moshood Ishola after three children.
In his ruling, the presiding judge, Idris Etsu, said the respondent, Ishola, had sent a letter to the court, saying he was allowing the petitioner, Abike, to leave in peace.
Etsu, thereby, dissolved the marriage between the two parties, ordering Ishola to observe a three-month Iddah (waiting period) according to Islamic rites.
The court, granting the custody of the three children of the marriage to Abike, ordered the husband to pay N35,000 as the children’s monthly maintenance and feeding allowance.
He was also ordered to be responsible for their school fees and medical expenses.
The court, however, gave him unrestricted access to the children but only at a reasonable time.
Earlier, the wife had told the court she was no longer interested in the marriage and applied for divorce, custody, and maintenance.
She also wanted her husband to pay N60,000 monthly for the maintenance and feeding of the three children.
