Police arrest lotto agent over possession of fake dollars
The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested a 37-year old Baba-Ijebu Lotto (gambling) agent, for allegedly being in possession of fake dollar notes.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to our reporter on Friday on Lagos.
Hundeyin said that operatives of the Ijora Bada Police Division made the arrest on Sunday when they raided a criminal hideout at White-sand area.
He said the raid took place at about 11.30 a.m., following the Commissioner of Police, Mr Adegoke Fayoade’s directive to flush out criminal from their different black spots within the vicinity .
“The suspect, who claimed to be a Baba-Ijebu Lotto agent at his lotto game kiosk, was found with a black bag containing currency suspected to be fake dollars.
“Immediately, the suspect and the exhibit were taken to the police station, but suspect denied ownership of the bag.
“The suspect mentioned that some people use the suspected fake dollars to defraud unsuspecting members of the public, and that the bag was kept in his kiosk by the persons,” he said.
The spokesperson, who said investigations were on, added that operatives had extended their dragnet to ensuring that the named fleeing suspects were arrested.
