Lagos State Government says it will continue to deepen relationship with India culturally, economically, medically and otherwise.

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance when he received the High Commissioner of India to Nigeria, Mr Shri Balasubramanian, at the Government House, Alausa, Ikeja, on Monday.

The governor also commended Indian Government for hosting the first set of fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy with the aim to develop future leaders in Nigeria.

“We are hoping that when we leave, subsequent governments will continue to deepen that fellowship. It will help us to develop future leaders for our country.

“In politics, commerce, entrepreneurship and all other spheres of life, our role is to intentionally put resources in place for new leaders to emerge.

“Thank you for the collaborative effort you had on the business-to-business and government-to-government side.

“We can further strengthen the relationship for several decades and build on it in years ahead,” he said.

According to Sanwo-Olu, Lagos is to Nigeria what Mumbai is to India – the financial capital.

Earlier, the high commissioner said that India had over N27 billion investments in Nigeria, expressing India’s readiness to strengthen bilateral relationship with Lagos on capacity building, scholarships, the state government’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda and other areas.
