Commercial motorcyclist docked for alleged theft of bike
A 30-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Julius Bitrus, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.
Bitrus was charged with theft by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), an offence that contravened section 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code.
The NSCDC Prosecutor, Mr Marcus Audu, told the court that the matter was reported at the Corps’ office in Kafanchan by one Yusuf Labaran on July 7.
Audu said the defendant had requested to use the complainant’s Bajaj motorcycle for commercial purposes for a day, to which he obliged.
According to him, the defendant later returned in the night to say that the motorcycle had been snatched by thieves.
When the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, thereafter, prayed to the court for an adjournment to enable him to call witnesses to prove the case against the defendant.
In his ruling, Justice Samson Kwasu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.
Kwasu adjourned the matter until July 25 for a hearing.
