The Plateau Chapter of the University of Jos Alumni has urged security agencies to ensure a “swift rescue” of the institution’s students kidnapped in Oturkpo, Benue, on Thursday.

A statement by Mr Gad Peter, the Chairman of the chapter, on Sunday in Abuja, also called for the arrest of the kidnappers.

The body condemned the attack and abduction of medical students of the university and their colleagues from University of Maiduguri.

“This ugly incident once again highlights the threat on our highways and poses a clear danger to the pursuit of education and knowledge.

“We call on the police and other security agencies to ensure a swift and safe rescue of the students and the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators,” the group said.

It urged citizens and community leaders to expose criminal elements hiding in their midst and using that cover to commit crime.
