Abia Rep pledges transparent distribution of palliatives

Rep. Obi Aguocha (PDP-Abia) has pledged to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of rice and ferlitlisers as well as in the execution of projects in his constituency.

In a statement on Monday, Aguocha stated that the palliatives would get to members of the constituency who deserve them.

The lawmaker who represents Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia, said that all 32 wards will be given priority attention.

He urged constituents not to disregard political opposition who lost in the 2023 general elections and are sponsoring protests over palliatives.

Aguocha said he valued the safety and well-being of all his constituents, regardless of their political persuasion.

He, however, urged the protesters to ensure that their protest remained a positive and constructive engagement.

“The distribution of rice and now fertiliser palliatives will be carried out in the 32 wards of our constituency with utmost care and fairness, ensuring that those in dire need receive support.

“Any allegations of mismanagement are entirely unfounded and are being used by mischief makers as tools of propaganda.

“We stand by the integrity of the processes we intend to use for the rice and fertiliser distribution.

“We welcome any genuine concerns or otherwise minded, to be brought forward through appropriate channels for redress,” he said.

On constituency project, the lawmaker said he had worked hard to secure viable projects, including infrastructure and human capital development opportunities in the 2024 Appropriations Act.

According to him, the appropriation act is an open source and easily verifiable and the projects are in line with campaign promises for projects aimed at improving the lives of our great people.

“These projects will be executed when funds are released by the Federal Government to contractors for their implementation.

“However, it is significant to note that projects in the appropriation act do undergo rigorous due process, including their award to eligible contractors who bid for them.

“It is also significant to understand that no government project funding at any level is released to the account of any lawmaker.

“We are committed to maintaining transparency and accountability. We will continue to provide regular updates to our constituents,” he said.

The rep who had so far sponsored 15 bills, pledged to continue constituent engagements and to improve on representation in the national assembly.
