Anambra 6th viable economy in Nigeria with lowest poverty indicators – Soludo

Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra says the state is progressing as it ranks sixth largest economy in the country with lowest poverty indicators.

Soludo made the assertion during a live broadcast in Awka to mark Anambra at 33.

It was reported that Anambra was created on Aug. 27, 1991, along with eight other states, by the then military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.

The governor said that 33 years after, Anambra remained on the right path and the top six most viable economies in Nigeria.

“In poverty index, we rank the lowest, and have the largest urban cities with four major cities in the state.

“We rank lowest in out-of-school-children in the country and this is indicative of the laurels we win. In health, we are second only to Lagos in low infant mortality rate,” he said.

Soludo said he was moving to his third year in office and had not borrowed any money.

“All I’m trying to say is that we take the issue of borrowing very seriously, and we are not going to borrow, unless we show you where that money is going to go and what value it will add.

“That recent publication that Anambra was planning to borrow N245 billion to finance the 2024 budget is nothing short of blatant falsehood and everybody must regard it as such,” he said.

Soludo said his government would strive to take Anambra to a higher pedestal and maintain the dreams of the founding fathers of the state.
