Anyim urges Govt. to sustain previous policies

Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, has advised the Nigerian government to maintain consistency in policies, citing inconsistency as a major reason for foreign investors’ exit.

He made this remark while delivering the keynote address at the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Secretaries to the States Government (SSG) forum, on Thursday in Abuja.

Anyim, former SGF under President Goodluck Jonathan, emphasised the role of SGF/SSGs as the government’s memory bank, responsible for updating new governments on policy status.

He noted that frequent changes in government agendas lead to disconnection from previous policies, stressing the need for harmonisation.

Anyim advocated for institutionalising the SGF/SSG office and creating laws to protect it for effective service delivery.

He pointed out that the office was not a creation of law, but rather a presidential appointment.

Sen. George Akume, the current SGF, emphasised the office’s role in monitoring and coordinating policy implementation, providing strategic advisory support, and ensuring effective governance.

Chris Okeke, representing the British High Commission, highlighted the critical role of SSGs in articulating, developing, and implementing government policies to prioritise sustainable development projects.

The event was attended by SSGs from all states and stakeholders from private and public sectors.
