NYSC Corps members undergo financial literacy training in Katsina
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Batch ‘B’ stream II corps members deployed to Katsina State have undergone a one-day sensitisation programme on basic financial literacy training.
The programme, held on Sunday at the NYSC orientation camp along Mani Road, served as a precursor to the scheme’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, commencing September 2.
Alhaji Sa’idu Ibrahim, NYSC Coordinator in the state, disclosed that the training was conducted in partnership with NYSC, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), and Kudimata Nigeria Limited, a financial education outfit.
He explained that the training aligned with the objectives of the SAED programme, aiming to equip corps members with vital life skills to become self-reliant.
Ibrahim emphasised that financial literacy was crucial for success in the competitive labour market and a stepping stone towards self-actualisation.
He encouraged corps members to leverage the knowledge gained from the training to avoid relying solely on white-collar jobs.
The NYSC Coordinator reiterated the scheme’s commitment to empowering youth corps members to become employers of labour.
The training featured a financial expert who provided insights on financial identity, planning, practical money management, and budgeting.
It was reported that the 2024 Batch ‘B’ stream II corps members were sworn in on Friday, August 29, for the three-week orientation course.
