LASTMA warns against speeding as it rescues driver
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says it rescued a driver whose Lexus 470 Jeep overturned at Alakija near Mile 2, warning against speeding.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, made this known in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement was signed by Mr Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA.
According to Bakare-Oki, the accident occurred after the vehicle veered off the road at high speed reportedly due to brake failure.
“The driver, who miraculously escaped without injury, expressed his gratitude to LASTMA officers from Zone 5, Mile 2, for their quick and effective intervention.
“Security support was also provided by the Mile 2 Police Station throughout the rescue and evacuation operation,” he said.
Bakare-Oki emphasised the importance of road safety, and urged motorists to observe speed limits and ensure their vehicles would be in optimal condition.
He said that members of the public could report emergencies or incidents to LASTMA through toll-free hotline (080000527862) or by visiting its newly-launched Walk-In Complaint Centre at LASTMA headquarters, Oshodi.
“This incident underscores the crucial need for regular vehicle maintenance and careful driving practices.
“LASTMA’s swift response, coupled with the collaboration of security agencies, successfully averted what could have been a catastrophic situation,” he said.
