Two men, Sabo Basiri, 29, and Mustapha Mohammed, 25, were on Tuesday arraigned for allegedly stealing a cow.

The defendants, of no fixed addresses, were arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on a single charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on Thursday, at about 1.30 p.m. at Ijan Forest Reserve in Ijan-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendants stole a cow valued at N500,000, belonging to one Peter Oso.

Adeniyi said the offence contravened Section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

The defendant’s counsel, Mr Sunday Balogun, urged the court to grant them bail, promising they would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

She, later, adjourned the case till Oct. 16 for hearing.
