FERMA begins rehabilitation of Jos – Akwanga road
The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has begun maintenance work on some failed sections of Jos – Akwanga road in Plateau.
Mr Daniel Ijie, the North-Central II Zonal Coordinator of the agnecy, stated this during the monitoring of the ongoing work on Wednesday in Jos.
The North-Central zone of the agency covers Plateau, Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa.
According to Ijie, the Jos – Akwanga road is among the critical ones captured for maintenance in its 2024 budget.
The coordinator, who acknowledged the bad condition of the road, said the move aimed at alleviating the sufferings of motorists plying the road.
”We are here to fulfil part of the mandate of the agency, and that is maintenance of all federal roads.
”This road as you know has been in terrible condition and this is why we are here to fix particularly critical spots that require urgent attention.
”Our men will be working on the road for the next two weeks, and we crave the indulgence of motorists to comply with our men,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Ayoola Bolaji, FERMA’s Engineer incharge of Plateau, commended the Federal Government for approving funds for the maintenance work.
He, however, urged government to commit more resources toward the rehabilitation of all arterial roads in the country.
He listed other federal roads in the state that would recieve attention from the agency to include Jos – Jengre -Saminaka, Hiepang – Barkin Ladi – Panyam and Vom – Manchok roads.
