Non-performing contractors will be kicked out, Wike issues fiery warning

In a bold and uncompromising stance, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a blistering warning to contractors lagging behind on key projects. After inspecting the sluggish progress on the 15-kilometre left wing service lane of the Outer Southern Expressway in Abuja, Wike expressed his outrage, threatening to boot out any non-performing contractors without hesitation.

Wike’s frustration boiled over as he singled out CGC Nigeria Ltd., the company handling the project, accusing them of gross underperformance. “They claim 75% completion, but what I’m seeing here isn’t even 50%!” Wike thundered during the site visit on Friday.

He slammed the contractor for extending the project deadline, which was initially set for December 2024 but has now been pushed to May 2025. “With what I’m seeing, this may not even be done in eight or nine months!” Wike exclaimed, visibly displeased.

“We’ve paid over 80% of the contract sum, and this is what we get in return? It’s unacceptable!” Wike fumed, making it clear that the FCT Administration would not tolerate any more excuses.

In a no-nonsense declaration, the minister laid out his terms: “If you don’t perform, you’re out. We don’t care if you’re an indigenous or foreign contractor—there are no sentiments here. We’re paying for results, not delays.”

Wike emphasized that non-performing contractors won’t just be shown the door—they’ll face penalties. “Before we kick you out, we’ll make you pay for it! You can’t take our money, fail to deliver, and walk away scot-free.”

The minister’s fury was ignited during an inspection of the Apo-Karshi road, where he noticed the lack of equipment and minimal progress on the Wasa project. “There was no equipment on site yesterday—now you’ve rushed to mobilize because I’m here today. This kind of behavior won’t be tolerated!” Wike said, his disappointment palpable.

Known for his strict stance on project delivery, Wike ordered the FCT’s Director of Engineering Services to sit down with CGC Nigeria Ltd., agree on a concrete work plan, and deliver a completion timeline by Monday. The road, Wike insisted, is crucial to easing traffic congestion and boosting economic activities in the area.

Wike’s message is crystal clear: under his leadership, contractors who fail to meet their obligations will face the full wrath of the FCT administration. There’s no room for slackers in Wike’s Abuja!
