Nollywood to celebrate women at cultural festival
Nigerian women championing the promotion and preservation of African cultural heritage would be honoured at the 12th edition of the Nollywood New Yam Festival and Awards, the organisers said.
Agility Onwurah, President of the annual thespian and cultural fiesta, stated this in an interview with our reporter on Monday in Abuja.
He said that the star-studded Nollywood show, with the theme: “The Role of African Women in the Preservation of African Culture.” will be held at the Exhibition Pavilion in Abuja.
According to him, the festival which comes up from Nov. 1 to 2, will recognise stakeholders from different backgrounds, who have used their resources, works and positions to promote Nigerian culture.
“This year’s theme emphasises the invaluable contributions of women across the continent, and the diaspora in sustaining African traditions, storytelling and heritage.
“Our cultural ambassadors, especially women, will be celebrated for preserving and showcasing who we are to the world.
“For over a decade, the Nollywood Cultural Heritage Festival has been a prestigious event that celebrates Africa’s vibrant culture, creativity and interesting traditions.
“It has provided a platform for preserving, showcasing, and promoting African cultural values while recognising individuals who have contributed exceptionally to the artistic and creative sectors, particularly Nollywood.
“This edition will be a celebration of African culture, uniting Africans and the global community in cultural exchange, while highlighting the pivotal role of African women in preserving African heritage,” he said.
Onwurah said the award would feature a Pan-African food session, unveil the new Ambassador and Face of the Nollywood Cultural Heritage Festival, and present the Youth Cultural Festival Arts Exhibition.
