Nigeria maintained their unbeaten run in Group D of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, securing a 1-0 win over Libya at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday, October 11.

The match appeared to be heading for a stalemate until substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru netted an 86th-minute winner, finally breaking Libya’s stubborn defense.

Nigeria dominated the match in Uyo, creating numerous chances but found it difficult to beat Libyan goalkeeper Murad Al Wuheeshi in the first half.

William Troost-Ekong came close early on, and Alex Iwobi forced a save in the 39th minute following a fine assist from Bruno Onyemaechi. Victor Boniface also threatened just before halftime with a header deflected for a corner.

In the second half, Iwobi and Moses Simon had opportunities to score, but Al Wuheeshi kept Libya in the game with several key saves, including denying Samuel Chukwueze in the 72nd minute.

However, Dele-Bashiru’s late strike from Moses Simon’s assist sealed the victory, keeping Nigeria one point clear of Benin, who earlier defeated Rwanda 3-0. Libya remains at the bottom of the group.
