The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, explained more on the events on Thursday in Ilorin at a news conference organised as part of activities for the institution’s 39th Convocation Ceremonies.

“For the First Degree/Diploma category: we have 256 in First Class, 3,842 in Second Class (Upper Division), 6,178 in Second Class (Lower Division), 1,299 in Third Class and 62 in Pass.

“The 39th Convocation Ceremonies will also include 124 MBBS graduands, 64 Nursing graduands, 35 Optometry graduands and 30 Veterinary Medicine graduands.

“There are 18 graduands with Distinction and 85 graduands with Pass in Pharmacy, one Distinction and 32 Pass in Physiotherapy,” he said.

According to Egbewole, there is a total of 16 Diplomas and that the total number of Higher degrees to be awarded at the convocation is 1,875.

He pointed out that, of this figure, there are 92 Post-Graduate Diplomas (PGDs), 1,280 Masters from various Faculties, 179 Professional Masters, one M.Phil and 323 Ph.Ds.

The Vice-Chancellor also stated that the university has recorded a remarkable achievement in terms of research and innovation, in spite of the present economic challenges.

“A university ranking body, ‘The Times Higher Education’, released its universities ranking for 2025 and ranked Unilorin in the sixth position in Nigeria.

“But this does not reflect the true position as another ranking body ‘SciVal Scopus’ released their result within the same week in which it ranked Unilorin as third,” Egbewole, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), said.

The however assured that the university would continue to strive to attain the best position in the country, while promoting the learning culture and character of the students.
