Boboye says state of Ilorin pitch responsible for 0-3 loss

Kennedy Boboye, Head Coach of Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, on Wednesday complained about the state of the football pitch at the Kwara Stadium Complex in Ilorin.

Boboye, who spoke after his team lost 0-3 to hosts Kwara United on the pitch, expressed disappointment that the pitch was unkempt ahead of the match.

It was reported that the match was a 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match day 7 encounter.

“I don’t know how they approved this pitch for a match like this and they didn’t cut it on this day of the match.

“The grasses on this pitch is overgrown and the ball was not moving smoothly, that is the problem.

“But they (Kwara United) are used to the field than us,” Boboye said, ostensibly pointing at it as an excuse for his team’s whooping loss.

“The pitch contributed 75 percent to our loss,” he went on to add.

It was reported that two first half goals from Wasiu Alalade and one from Shola Abdulraheem in the second half ensured Sunshine Stars returned home with their tails in between their legs.
