Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo, has directed members of the Edo State Security Network to resume their regular duties due to deteriorating security situation in the state.

This was contained in a statement by Chris Osa Nehikhare, the commissioner for Communication and Orientation on Tuesday in Benin.

It was reported that last week aggrieved parties, armed with dangerous weapons, held sway in Ikpoba area of Benin City leading to the death of over 10 persons.

Obaseki gave the directive after the State Security Council meeting, when a review of the recent rise in homicides and other security incidents in the state were discussed.

The statement noted that the current state of insecurity would not be tolerated, adding that the Commissioner of Police had been mandated to ensure the restoration of order and sanity in the state.

According to the statement, the state government restates its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.
