Delta Assembly passes film/videos Censor’s Board bill

Delta House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the Film and Video Censor’s Board Bill to boost the economy of the state.

The passage of the bill during plenary in Asaba followed the consideration of a report by the Chairman, House Committee on Arts, Culture and Tourism, Mr Bernard Odior.

Odior (PDP-Isoko North), while presenting the report, noted that the Executive Bill had 49 clauses.

He also said that the bill, when passed, would help to boost the revenue base of the state as well as create employment for people of the state.

Newsverge reports that the bill was later read and adopted clause-by-clause before the Committee of the Whole House chaired by the Speaker.

Consequently, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Mr Emeka Nwaobi, moved a motion for the third reading and passage of the bill, and was seconded by Mr Odior.

The speaker, Mr Dennis Guwor (PDP-Warri South West), put the motion to a voice vote, and it was unanimously adopted by the lawmakers.

Responding, Guwor, who commended the lawmakers for their commitment toward passage of the bill, said it would help to create employment for people of the state.

”At the committee of the whole, the bill was considered and scrutinised clause by clause in line with the Standing Rules of the House.

”The passage of the bill will help to regulate the activities of film and video works in the state as well as boost the state’s internally generated revenue, ” he said.
