Abiru urges Ikorodu residents on information to curtail insecurity
Sen. Adetokunbo Abiru (Lagos-East) on Sunday appealed to Ikorodu residents to provide useful information to tackle insecurity in the area.
Abiru made the appeal during the 50th Birthday and Book Launch of Akinyemi Adepeju, Founder of Ikorodu Oga Radio, at Oriwu Club Hall in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The event was themed: “Impact of Community Media on National Security, Tourism Development and Cultural Renaissance.”
Abiru, represented by his media aide, Enitan Olukotun, called on all stakeholders in the division to collaborate and tackle insecurity as a nation, state or local government.
“Leaders in Ikorodu have been doing a lot in galvanising stakeholders to put measures in place to reduce the crime rate across Ikorodu.
“This idea has led to the establishment of different local security outfits to complement the efforts of the statutory security agencies.
“Traditional leaders and my office have sensitised residents on providing useful information to enhance the safety of lives and communities across the division,” he said.
Abiru commended the author for distinguishing himself as a journalism professional, advising him to consolidate his successes.
Similarly, Wasiu Adesina, Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government Area, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising the security of lives and properties in the community.
Adesina said his administration had improved security architecture in the area through the set-up of a joint task force to complement the effort of the police.
He said Akinyemi had played a significant role in disseminating developmental projects and placing Ikorodu on the global map through his radio station.
“I join millions of people in congratulating you as a pioneer of a community radio station in Ikorodu.
“As regards insecurity, my administration’s priority is to ensure the security of lives and properties, which is the core mandate to our community,” he said.
Earlier, Akinyemi, during his book launch titled: ”From Dreams to Reality”, expressed gratitude to traditional and political leaders who graced the event.
Akinyemi said the media would continue to play a significant role in ensuring sustainable democracy and curtailing insecurity in the country.
