A Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos, on Tuesday, sentenced a 52-year-old man, Alex Chukwu, to two years imprisonment for stealing his employer’s N2 million worth of property.

The Magistrate, Mrs Sanusi Adagun, summarily tried and sentenced the defendant after he pleaded guilty to a one count charge.

Adagun, however, gave the convict who resides at No 4, Boundary Road, Apapa Lagos, an option of fine after he pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing him.

The magistrate ordered him to either pay back the sum of N2 million to the complainant within four days or risk going to prison.

It was reported that the convict was first arraigned on Oct. 7.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Reuben Solomon, told the court that Chukwu committed the offence on July 30 at No 2 Atunrase St., Off Ishaga Road, Surulere, Lagos state.

He told the court that the defendant had stolen clothing material and a ringlight valued at N2 million from his employer.

Solomon said that the offence committed contravened section 280 (a) (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
