FAAN MD talks tough, decries unprofessional conduct
Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has charged Lagos airport security personnel on professionalism.
Kuku gave the charge during the unveiling of the “Operation Air Clean” initiative, on Tuesday in Lagos.
She expressed her displeasure on the persistent issues caused by overlapping responsibilities and excessive checks conducted by the security agencies at the airport.
The MD said that she would not condone any excesses of any security personnel, as punitive measures awaited errant officials.
Addressing the heads of security agencies at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), she said that the authority would take a stand against unprofessional conducts.
She urged them to immediately change the unpleasant trend.
Kuku said that such unprofessional conducts had invariably caused flight delays and unnecessary rowdiness at the airport.
“Investors are complaining. Lagos Airport is their first impression of Nigeria, and it is unacceptable for that impression to be chaos and inefficiency,” she said.
Kuku said that there were engagements between some security personnel and passengers which were appalling.
“I have a very clear directive, it goes for the team leads, it goes for the Heads of Departments, and it goes for the heads of the organisations at the airport.
“If your organisation is found wanting, then it means that you as a leader have failed, and it means that I have failed, and this had better stop.
“I also hear that agencies are giving returns to their bosses, know it that the airport is no longer a place to come and make money, same goes to AVSEC,” she said.
Kuku called for unified action to achieve zero tolerance for misconduct.
