Man,19, bags 2 years imprisonment for stealing N687,000

An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, on Tuesday sentenced a 19-year-old Victor Oluwaseeki, to two years imprisonment, for stealing a bag containing $150 and valuable items worth N687,000.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, summarily tried and convicted Oluwaseeki, after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace.

Fadairo, sentenced the convict to two years imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine.

The magistrate also ordered the convict to refund the sum of N687,000 to the complainant, Mr Oguntoba Olamigoke, a police officer.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the convict committed the offences on Nov. 11, at about 1.40 a.m. at Mario Hotel, Ota.

Adaraloye stated that the convict conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

According to him, Oluwaseeki sneaked into the complainant’s room and stole a bag containing a Camon 19 Techno Phone, $150 and other items, all valued at N687,000.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 249(D) and 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
