The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) says a total of 6,837 students will graduate in its 13th convocation with 62 of the graduands conferred with First Class Honours.

Prof. Olugbenga Ige, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of AAUA, stated this on Monday during a news conference heralding the convocation and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the university.

Ige said that on Friday and Saturday, the university would present the graduands degree certificates from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions.

According to him, 62 of the graduands achieved First Class Honours, and 1,941 earned Second Class Honours (Upper Division).

“3,486 graduands attained Second Class Honours (Lower Division), 684 graduated with Third Class Honours and 8 fell into the category of Pass.

“The graduands include 657 postgraduate students among whom 46 had earned their Ph.D. degrees,” he said.

He noted that the convocation lecture would be delivered by Prof. Dipo Kolawole, the former VC of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, while Mr Kayode Ajulo would deliver the 25th anniversary lecture.

Ige stated that Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State and members of House of Representatives, Mr Adegboyega Adefarati and Mr Hazmat Subair, would be honoured with Ph.D. for their outstanding contributions to the society.

“Among our key aspiration is the stabilisation of the academic calendar and aligning with international standards of the transformative role of higher education in national development.

“Our university has also been on the vision of its founding fathers of research, knowledge, character and service to humanity,” he said.
He said that the institution’s vision had positioned it as a leading university in the country.

“Proof of this is its consistent achivement of 100 per cent accreditation for its programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

“Presently, accreditation exercises are ongoing for 13 programmes and we are grateful for the unwavering support of all stakeholders who have been instrumental in these successes.

“In research and development, our academics have consistently achieved remarkable global recognition, an attestation to the university’s commitment and of excellence and innovation.

“Most notably, eight of our academics were recently ranked among the top two per cent of global scientists in the prestigious 2024 Stanford Elsevier ranking.

“This ranking serves as a beacon of the quality of education and mentorship offered at our university.

“It demonstrates that our staff are not just contributing to knowledge but are doing so at the highest global standards,” he stated.

Ige said that the institution was resolute in its support for students, ensuring that their academic journey was enriching and accommodating.

“Through initiatives such as scholarships and the work study scheme, we continue to invest in their success.

“The scheme, in particular, allows willing students to work in the university for two hours daily, allowing them to earn stipend at the end of each semester.

“Apart from this, our Students’ Support Centre has remained active and vibrant.

“This centre administers financial aid to different categories of students, including gifted, indigent and physically chalky students.

“Under the terms of the agreement, the university will cover half of the school expenses for all the physically challenged students,” he stated.
