Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday called for investigation into the alleged attempted murder of Sen. Lawal Adamu Usman, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

It was reported that the incident occurred on Jan. 1 while the senator was inspecting constituency projects in Kaduna North Local Government Area.

The Publicity Secretary of North-West PDP Supporters’ Group, Sanusi Sarki, in a statement issued in Kaduna, described the incident as an attempt to’murder democracy in broad daylight’.

According to him, the incident is a political permutation taken too far against the lawmaker.

Sarki described Usman as a very important political leader in Kaduna who had done so much to bring succour to the people of his senatorial district.

He claimed that the senator’s achievements and popularity had been making some individuals and groups uncomfortable, thereby doing everything possible to eliminate him.

Sarki, who stated that such an incident was unacceptable in a democratic society, called on security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He advised political representatives to always be security conscious in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

Sarki also urged the acting PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to order immediate investigations into the attempted murder of the senator.
