Armed Forces Day: We’ll keep supporting fallen heroes’ families – Makinde
Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting widows and children left behind by fallen heroes.
Makinde restated this during Wednesday’s grand finale of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, held at the Arcade, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
He said his administration would ensure that the welfare of the weak ones among legionnaires was given priority.
He noted that the fallen heroes paid the supreme price to ensure the country remained one, safe and secure.
Makinde commended the service commanders, men and officers of all security agencies operating in the state for their dedication to securing the state.
“They are supporting this administration to maintain an environment where economic activities can thrive,” the governor said.
The chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Oyo State Command, Julius Ogunkojo, appealed to the government to provide more for the needs of officers and men of the armed forces.
Ogunkojo urged well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the ex-servicemen for better living.
It was reported that highlights of the event include the firing of rounds volley, laying of wreaths, and the release of ceremonial pigeons by the governor.
It was reported that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is celebrated annually to honour and remember the sacrifices of past and current military personnel.
