<strong>Mr Akai Egwuonwu, the Managing Director of Stine Industries, producers of Anambra Rice, has promised to work with Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to restore peace and security in Anambra South Senatorial District, if elected.

Egwuonwu, a top contender in the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election, said this at a parley with journalists in Awka on Friday.

He commended Soludo for taking a decisive action to address the insecurity with the launch of Operation ‘Udo Ga Achi’ Security Initiative.

Egwuonwu expressed worry about looming hunger due to reduced supply and high cost of food items which he blamed on the inability of farmers to go to their farms.

“Insecurity is affecting food security, the price of rice is about N100,000 because there is a shortfall in supply of rice and other food items,” he said.

Egwuonwu said his factory was shutdown for about two years at a time due to insecurity.

He said though insecurity was a national problem, the situation in Southeast and Nnewi South in particular, was peculiar and required multiple collaborating strategies to address.

According to him, as a Senator, I will ensure a robust conversation about it, and work with my other colleagues with a view of finding a lasting solution to the problem.

“I will key into what the governor is doing, insecurity is a national issue because it affects every part of the country but ours is somehow peculiar.

“Again, I would like to see the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and then implement other security measures,” he said.

On the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election, Egwuonwu said the All Progressives Grand Alliance, is the party to beat and that he had all it took to fly its flag.

Egwuonwu said he had good knowledge of the challenges of the people of the Senatorial District and the credentials to make legislation to effect the desired changes.
