Police arrest man over attempt to use father, siblings, 5 friends for ritual

A 24-year-old man, Oluwanifemi Adebayo, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly converting his employer’s N1.9 million to his personal use.

The defendant whose house address was not provided, is standing trial on a count charge of conversion of fund.

The prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between March 2024 and October 2024, at Lovely Eatery Sholadola, Ajilosun Area in Ado-Ekiti.

Oriyomi alleged that the defendant, an employee at Lovely Eatery, stole the sum of N1.9 million belonging to the eatery.

According to him, the defendant converted the money via his Opay account No. 8107756346 and Moniepoint account No. 5651642903.

The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened Section 302(6) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him by the police.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Adetoro Awojobi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case until Feb.20 for hearing.
