NAFDAC cautions youths against drug, alcohol abuse

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday cautioned youths on the dangers of illicit drugs and alcohol abuse.
Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of NAFDAC, said this during a “Catch Them Young” sensitisation held at Government Model Secondary School, Suleja in Niger.
Adeyeye, represented by the state Coordinator, James Kigbu, warned that illicit drugs and alcohol could lead to addiction, mental health problems, and even death.
She said the agency was concerned about the increasing rate of substance abuse among youths in the country.
Adeyeye noted that the abuse of illicit drugs and alcohol was a major public health concern that required collective efforts to address.
She emphasised the agency’s committed to protecting the health and well-being of Nigerians, particularly youths, from the dangers of illicit drugs and alcohol.
In his remarks, Malam Ibrahim Idris, Principal of the school, commended NAFDAC’s efforts in addressing substance abuse among youths.
He said he had always followed the agency’s activities and advised the students to take deliberate steps against substance abuse.
Idris encouraged NAFDAC to embark on physical projects to increase its visibility.
It was reported that NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club (NCSC) was re-established at the school, with 330 students inaugurated as members.
It was also reported that the inauguration of the club aimed to promote awareness about the dangers of substandard products and unwholesome practices.
