LASU governing council promises improved facilities at LASUSBAB

Sir David Sunmoni, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Lagos State University, Ojo, has promised to improve facilities at the LASU School of Basic and Advanced Studies (LASUSBAB) in Badagry.
Sunmoni made the promise at the official visit by members of the school’s governing council to the campus in Badagry on Monday.
Sunmoni said the council was in the school to check the facilities and see how to improve on them.
Addressing members of staff and students of the school, he said the interaction was to have first-hand information on the facilities on ground and how to improve on them.
“The governing council of LASU have an oversight function of all activities of the university, so that is why we are here.
“This is an opportunity to have information and see what we need to do,” he said.
It was reported that the team, comprising members of the council and some administrative staff of the school, were round facilities in the school.
The facilities included the library, CCTV control room, science classrooms and laboratories, conference rooms, Arts and Social Sciences classrooms, the Computer Based Test (CBT) centre and cafeteria.
After going round, the pro-chancellor, promised that the CBT centre would be extended to accommodate more students and also provide for external candidates.
He assured the members of staff and students that most of the faulty electrical appliances would be rectified.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Prof. Adenike Boyo, deputy vice-chancellor, Administration of the school, said the inspection would give them first-hand information on the school.
She welcomed the pro-chancellor and members of the governing council to the campus.
In his remarks, the Director, LASUSBAB Prof. Dauda Yunus, said the school has witnessed tremendous progress.
“Some of our achievements were building of two new cafeteria, building of CBT center, purchase of 150 KVA generator, refurbishment of classrooms and laboratories and donation of New Ambulance.
‘Provision of Solar Light in the campus and hostel, furnishing of seminar rooms, construction of student reading room at Aradagun hostel, procurement of photocopy machine, provision of 40 CCTV Cameras at Topo Campus.
“We also purchased security patrol bus and the management promptly paid the Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) examination fees, trained tutors and paid their salaries, which also contributed to our success.
‘The provision of the aforementioned facilities led to the tremendous progress of the school and success of our students in the JUPEB examinations,” he said.
He, however, said that it would be appreciated if the governing council could provide hostels for students, buy a 42-seater coaster bus and increase CBT centre space for students in the school.
“There is need for building of more classrooms to accommodate the increasing numbers of students, construction of perimeter fence by the lagoon side for security, painting of the campus building and building of administrative offices,” he said.
