Uzodimma pledges continued support to security agencies

Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo has pledged continued support to security agencies in their concerted efforts to end terror attacks and other violent crimes in the state.
Uzodimma made the pledge, on Tuesday, while receiving the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu, Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye, at the Government House, Owerri.
He praised the gallantry of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in “containing the ugly incidents of insecurity that bedevilled the South-East to date”.
He also commended the robust relationship that existed between the Nigeria Army and other security agencies with the people of the state.
“We appreciate your sacrifices, we appreciate your contributions, we also appreciate your commitments to ensure that there is peace in the South-East.
“No government can thrive in an atmosphere of violence and rancour,” the governor said.
According to him, since the assumption of office of President Bola Tinubu, the security situation in the country has been confronted and brought relatively to an appreciable level.
He said that the renewed vigour, which the president had demonstrated in funding security, was being emulated by some governors at the sub-national level.
“We have observed with gratitude and happiness how military, officers of sister security agencies in the region have taken the battle to the criminals and which is yielding incremental results daily.
“I urge you to continue the battle, don’t relent, be vigilant.
“On our part, we will give you every support and cooperation to ensure that the people of South-East and residents have peace and go about their businesses without fear of molestation,” Uzodimma said.
Earlier, Olatoye, who is also the Commander of the Joint Task Force, South-East (Operation Udoka), said he was in the state on a maiden operation and familiarisation tour of Sector Four Joint Task Force.
“The visit is designed to ascertain the operational readiness of the sector, appraise the challenges as well as advise the sector in respect of their future task.
He commended the governor for his support and urged him not to be deterred in his coordination of all the non-kinetic measures to eradicate all threats to security in the state.
Olatoye promised to upscale the new task of the kinetic line of operation in tackling security to ensure the actualisation of the governors’ socio-economic development without challenges.
