Police arraign manure seller over alleged N1.2m fraud

The police on Friday arraigned a 40-year-old manure seller, Abubakar Hashim, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over an alleged N1.2 million fraud.

Hashim was charged with stealing and obtaining goods under false pretences, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp Kemi Oladapo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in July 2022, at Akinyele area of Ibadan.

She alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained 550 bags of manure worth N1.2 million from the complainant, Mrs Bunmi Ayanwale.

“The defendant promised to pay back but failed to do so,” the prosecutor said.

She said the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.A Atanda granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She thereafter adjourned the case until March 18 for hearing.
