Ramadan: FAAN MD urges prayers for industry growth

The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, has urged Muslims at the nation’s airports to pray for industry growth.

A statement issued on Friday said Kuku made the appeal during an Iftar dinner she hosted for the airport Muslim community on Thursday evening.

She encouraged Muslims and all Nigerians to foster unity and peaceful coexistence, helping to build a harmonious airport environment and a more peaceful nation.

Kuku also urged Muslims to exemplify good morals in their personal and public conduct.

She noted that Nigeria is blessed with God-fearing people across various faiths, contributing positively to national development in many areas.

Recalling her childhood, she said, “My grandmother is Muslim. I grew up in a Muslim home, but religion does not define or divide us.

“It is our hearts that reflect our values and legacy. Religion neither defines us nor separates us — it unites when we focus on humanity.

“This season of Lent and Ramadan highlights our shared purpose. Regardless of faith, we are one people,” she added.

Kuku expressed gratitude to the Muslim community for their prayers, noting their positive impact on airport development.

She said recent progress under her leadership is partly due to the Muslim community’s prayers and supplications.

“I urge you to embrace unity, reflect on your journey, and support others as you move forward,” she advised.

She prayed for healing and Allah’s mercy throughout the remainder of the holy month of Ramadan.

FAAN’s Director of Airport Operations, Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood, praised Kuku’s inclusive approach toward religious groups at the airports.

Mahmood said, “This month is for prayer, giving, and sharing with family, friends, and colleagues, regardless of religion.

“The MD saw value in gathering the Muslim community within FAAN and its environs for Iftar.

“The Prophet Muhammad taught that the best meal is shared with others, as blessings come from such gatherings.”

He emphasised that inviting someone, even a rival, brings blessings — hospitality fosters unity and friendship.

“This Iftar dinner shows the MD’s desire to extend friendship, signalling that everyone present is part of her community,” Mahmood said.

The Iftar event was held at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, drawing Muslims from FAAN and nearby airport communities.

Over 300 Muslim men and women attended, breaking their fast and observing Maghrib prayer with the FAAN MD.
