LASU Muslim community celebrates 100 First Class students

The Lagos State University Muslim Community (LASUMC) on Friday celebrated 100 student members who earned First Class in various courses in the 2023/2024 academic session.

The outstanding Muslim scholars were celebrated at a special convocation Jumat service, held at the university mosque

Some of the students include Mr Olatunji Afeez-Taiwo, best graduating student in the Faculty of Arts; Mr. Tajudeen Kazeem, Mr. Eleshin Sumayah, Ms. Atinuke Lawal, Ms. Temitope Sanusi, Ms. Ashiah Motunrola.

Speaking at the event, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, said that the school’s merit-based admission system resulted in a “harvest of First Class scholars” in the academic session.

“With no fewer than 192 first class graduating students out of 8,711 regular graduating students in the outgoing session, the school is charting a new version of being the best in West Africa.

“The school management will continue to provide friendly teaching and learning environment to ensure the institution maintains excellence,” Olatunji-Bello,who was a guest at the event, said.

In his speech, Chairman, LASUMC, Prof. Babatunde Yusuf, said that the community, through the assistance of the school, had consistently facilitated members’ learning.

Yusuf said that the community would continue to assist student members to excel in their studies through the provision of learning materials and facilities within the mosque area.

“Tbe celebration of outstanding products by the community should encourage our undergraduates to do well too.

“The community prioritises the welfare and sponsorship of the indigent ones among us. We don’t want anyone to be left out.

“Aside from assisting them in their academic pursuits, we also encourage our student members to imbibe Islamic values ,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of other students, Taiwo thanked LASUMC for the honour, saying the celebrated students would always keep in touch with the community, even out of school.

It was reported that the event featured presentation of certificates of excellence to the students as well as a career talk.
