FG powers Head of Service office with solar plant

The Federal Government has powered the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF) with a one-megawatt solar plant to provide alternative electricity supply for efficient service delivery.

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, said this at the handover ceremony in Abuja on Monday.

It was reported that the project, developed by the Ministry of Power, is part of the Federal Government’s Solar PV initiative aimed at powering public buildings across the country.

Adelabu said the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of transitioning to clean energy and powering public institutions sustainably.

The minister, who was represented by Mr Mamman Mahmuda, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, described the project as a commitment to energy security, environmental sustainability, and cost-effective governance.

“By powering key government infrastructure with solar energy, we are demonstrating the potential of renewable energy in achieving universal electricity access in a sustainable manner,” he said.

He added that the HCSF office, being the hub of public administration and policy formulation, required uninterrupted power supply to ensure efficient service delivery.

“It is a known fact that the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation is the nerve center of public administration in Nigeria and the epicenter of policy development and implementation.

“The benefit of this initiative among others will reduce the cost of electricity from the grid. It will reduce operational cost by reducing diesel consumption,’’ he added.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Ministry of Power for the successful execution of the project.

Walson-Jack stated that the project was a reflection of a shared commitment to enhancing service delivery and promoting sustainable energy use in the civil service.

“This marks a pivotal stride towards a more sustainable public service infrastructure. Reliable power supply is essential for effective governance and national development.”

She noted that integrating renewable energy into civil service operations would promote innovation and improve efficiency.

“This important milestone underscores our collective commitment to improving public service delivery and promoting sustainable energy solutions within the federal civil service.

“As the engine room for public administration, the civil service requires stable power to deliver on its mandates, foster economic growth, and ultimately serve the people of our great nation,” She said.

Also speaking, Mr Ichie Omeje, Managing Director of Truetech Global Investment Services Ltd., described the project executed in partnership with JRB Solar Investment Ltd. as a major step in the Federal Government’s drive for sustainable energy solutions in Nigeria.

Omeje said world-class equipment was deployed for the project, with a three-year maintenance plan to ensure seamless transition and sustainability of power supply within the premises.
