Technology has enhanced, not replaced NIPOST operations – Manager

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) says the use of technology has significantly enhanced its operations and helped the agency better fulfill its mandate.
The Enugu Postal Manager, Dr. Chris Ashiedu, said this during an interview with our reporter on Wednesday at the ongoing 36th Enugu International Trade Fair.
The theme of the 10-day fair, which began on Friday, is “Developing Nigeria’s Industrial Sector/SMEs for Economic Advancement and Global Recognition.”
Ashiedu addressed the recurring question of whether technology was replacing NIPOST’s traditional roles, clarifying that technology was, in fact, improving and simplifying the agency’s operations.
“Technology is not taking over our activities; rather, it is making it easier to achieve our operational targets and fulfill our mandate more efficiently,” he said.
According to him, NIPOST currently operates a reliable and trusted parcel and goods tracking system, allowing customers to monitor the movement of their consignments from the comfort of their homes or offices.
“Today, we also offer financial services, including agent banking, made possible through digital and high-speed technology.
“The agent banking system has simplified financial transactions, especially for Nigerians in remote and unbanked communities.
“People in rural areas can now receive cash without the burden of traveling long distances to access banking services,” Ashiedu explained.
He further revealed that NIPOST was developing a technological application to track unregistered courier and logistics companies, as well as to identify their remote operational locations.
The manager noted that the agency had also expanded into e-commerce, digital postcode systems, and e-government services , all driven by advancements in technology.
“NIPOST has fully embraced technology, recognising its benefits in streamlining work, improving service delivery, and enhancing everyday life,” he added.
It was reported that other services offered by NIPOST include mail and logistics, stamp authentication, stamp sales, and philately (collection and study of postage stamps)
