Makinde to dualise road from Ajia Junction to Air Force Base

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has promised to dualise the road from Ajia Junction, on the Ibadan-Ife Road, to the Air Force Base, Ajia.

Makinde, during an on-the-spot assessment of the Air Force Base project in Ibadan on Friday, said that the road dualisation would commence immediately.

It was reported that the governor was accompanied by AVM Kolade Ademuwagun, the Air Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Ikeja, Lagos.

Makinde added that another road linking the base to Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Alakia, Ibadan, would be completed as a single carriage.

On the likely completion date of the base, Makinde said he would get the contractor to ensure speedy completion.

According to him, the project will, hopefully, be commissioned before the end of May or early June, during the Air Force anniversary.

“You can see that the Air Force base in Ajia is a reality now.

“It’s the infrastructure around it that we came here to see,” he said.

He, however, added that the road dualisation to the base would take about six months to be completed.

“I will give them about six months to complete it; the hydraulic work is done, it remains just to complete the stone base and put asphalt,” he said.

Recall that the base project, sitting on 58.58 hectares of land donated by the Oyo State Government, was flagged off in April 2022.

It would be the permanent base of the 671 Nigerian Air Force Detachment.

Makinde had said the project keyed into his administration’s plan of having a robust security architecture and expanding the state’s economy.

It would also be expected to enhance the operations and improve the response time of the men of the Armed Forces to crises and criminality.
