Pilgrimage: Okpebholo urges Edo pilgrims to be law-abiding

Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo on Tuesday urged the 206 pilgrims going to Mecca, Saudi Arabia to be peaceful, disciplined, and reflect Edo values.

Okpebholo gave the charge at the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board office while bidding them farewell in Benin.

Okpebholo, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, advised them to be disciplined and make Edo proud, adding that Edo pilgrims were known for exemplary conduct.

He commended the Board for its excellent preparations, noting that their dedication demonstrated commitment and responsibility to the pilgrimage’s success.

“As you travel, carry the values defining us. Be disciplined and represent Edo with dignity.

“Let your behaviour reflect your faith’s teachings. Pray for peace in Edo, unity, and national progress,” he advised.

On his part, Chairman of the state Muslim Pilgrims Board, Mallam Muhammad Uduimoh, appreciated the governor for his guidance, support, and strong encouragement.

He said the governor’s logistical, financial, and moral support made the 2025 Hajj preparations smooth, safe, and well-coordinated.

Uduimoh confirmed that Edo pilgrims would depart on Wednesday to Saudi Arabia.

The Executive Secretary of Edo Muslim Pilgrims Board, Alhaji Eranga MuhammadKabir disclosed that 120 males and 86 females would travel for this year’s hajj.

Speaking on behalf of the pilgrims, Amir Hajj, HRH Mallam Ali Sulayman, thanked the governor for his support.

The Oghieaga of Ibvie, Etsako East, commended the governor’s effort in promoting religious harmony across all communities in Edo.
